TOPIC 7: ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE📚📜🛡️

Assalamualaikum everyone. Today I want to share about topic 7…

So, there are two part in this Topic. The first part is about plagiarism and the second part is about calculating the GPA and CGPA.

PART 1

So, what is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the act of taking another person’s writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own . In this part, I’ve learn about how to prevent the plagiarism. There are two steps to prevent the plagiarism.

Step 1 : Planning your paper

  • Consult you lecturer or tutor
  • Plan your paper
  • Take effective notes

Step 2 : Writing your paper

  • Cite your sources (for citation reference, use APA format).
  • Make it clear who said what.
  • Know how to paraphrase
  • Evaluate your sources.
  • Include a reference page.

PLAGIARISM IS WRONG BECAUSE

⚠️ it is unethical

⚠️ it is illegal

⚠️ it is against all academic codes of conduct

⚠️ it robs the plagiarizer of important skills

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM?

1) You must plan your paper;

• consult your lecturer

• plan your paper

• take effective notes

2) While writing your paper;

• make it clear who said what

• know how to paraphrase

• evaluate your sources

• include a reference pages

• use online tools to check for plagiarism

To avoid the plagiarism, there’s an application called smallseotools.com which help the lecturer check the students assignment either the students  are plagiarize or not. If the percentage are more than 30%, the assignments are considered as plagiarism.

PART 2

In this part, I’ve learned about how to calculate the GPA and CGPA. What is GPA and CGPA? GPA is an acronyms of Grade Point Average, while CGPA is an acronyms for Cumulative Grade Point Average.

GPA stands for Grade Point Average

GPA Formula

GP = Grade Points | Credits = Credits

GPA formula is based on 4.0 Scale

GPA formula is based on 3 key points.

  • Multiply each numeric grade value by the number of credits the course was worth
  • • Add these numbers together.
  • • Divide weighted average grade for each courses by the total number of credits you took

📒📃TOPIC 6: TAKING LECTURE NOTES.✏🐞

Hi, Assalammualaikum. Today i want share about Taking Lecture Notes. 🐞
In this topic , what i had been learn is how to concentrate when lecturers teach while taking important notes. So this is why it’s necessary and how :

WHAT IS NOTE TAKING ?

Note-taking is the practice of writing down or otherwise recording key points of information. It is also means writing down ideas from lecturers & readings in our own words.

“…taking notes doesn’t simply mean scribbling down or marking up the things that strike your fancy,”  –
Walter Pauk and Ross J. Q.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO TAKE LECTURE NOTES?

Helps us to pay attention in class.

Helps us to study for quiz, tests / final exam.

Helps us to improve our memory.

Helps us to take ownership of ideas.

Helps us to engage our senses.

( Visual, Auditory, Kinestethic )

Helps us organize and process data and information.

Helps the lecturers test the students on how well they captured given information.

WHY REVIEW NOTES ?

  • We lose 80% of what we hear if it is not reviewed within a few hours.
  • Identify any questions for peers, the next class,or to ask the lecturer.
  • There is not enough time to absorb all the information given in class if it’s not reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Think  “…if I was tested on this lecture tomorrow,would I answer it ?” .

WHY “RECAPTURE” NOTES AFTER CLASS ?

  • Free you up to write in quick, shorthand during class
  • An excellent test-prep strategy for reinforcing information better than recopying. (Digesting & rephrasing).
  • Comparing notes we take with other peers to increase understanding and check if there are any errors or missing points
  • Review your notes with 24 hours and before the next class.
  • Check your notes against the textbook/reference books.

What materials do we need for notes taking ?

  • Loose – leaf paper.
  • Binder.
  • Folders with pockets.
  • Pens, pencils, erasers, etc.

BEFORE CLASS ;-

  • Review the notes from the day before.
  • Review your reading assignment.
  • Make sure you have paper,text,pens/pencils,handout.
  • Write the date at the top of your paper for notes.
  • Leave spaces between the lines so that you can add information later.

PHYSICAL FACTORS :-

  • Seating.
  • Near the front & center. Better vision, better hearing.
  • Avoid distraction. ~ Doorways,windows glare,peers.
  • Turn off cell phones.

HOW DO WE TAKE NOTES ?

  • Date & label notes.
  • Give ourselves space to write.
  • Use abbreviations,symbols,acronym
  • Use an outline to show main ideas, supports, examples.
  • Use our own language.

HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR CLASS ?

  • Do pre – reading & homework.
  • Review syllabus.
  • Preview previous notes.
  • Look up the key words prior to class.
  • Plan on listening 80% of the time & write 20% of the time.
  • Write the date at top of your paper for notes.
  • Leave spaces between the notes.
  • Start an early bird club.

# WHILE TAKING NOTES…BE AN AGGRESSIVE,NOT A PASSIVE LISTENER.

BECOMING AN EDUCATOR IS NOT EASY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY NEED TO TEACH VARIOUS TYPES AND VARIETY OF STUDENTS IN THEIR CLASS.SO, WE AS STUDENTS SHOULD EMPHASIZE THE MOOD OF OUR LECTURERS WHETHER THEY ARE IN A GOOD MOOD OR VICE VERSA.WE ALSO NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE SHOULD NOT MAKE THEM ANGRY WITH OUR SILLY MISTAKES.

CONTS :-

  • Keen observers focus their attention on the details & make the most of their time during lectures by preparing & reviewing BEFORE THE LECTURE EVER STARTS.
  • Complete outside assignments.
  • Bring the right materials to the lecture according the course that we take.

KEY ACTIONS TO NOTE AS YOU OBSERVE YOUR INSTRUCTOR :-

  1. Be alert to repetition ~ When an instructor repeats specific point it means IMPORTANT.
  2. Watch the board or overhead projector.
  3. Notice the instructor’s interest level.
  4. Let go of judgementabout lecture styles.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE INSTRUCTORS IS NOT TOO INTERESTING :-

  1. When you notice your attention slipping, pay attention to the ACT of writing.
  2. Ask questions ~ Chances are the question you think is “dumb” is on the mind of several classmates.
  3. Sit in the front of the room. ~ Harder to fall asleep, the board is easier to read, the instructor can see you more easily.

WRITING NOTES IS AMONG THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO REMEMBER WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED AT A CERTAIN TIME. BUT DO YOU KNOW THAT WRITING A NOTE ALSO HAS SEVERAL DIFFERENT METHODS. LET’S SEE WHAT THE METHOD IS.

TAKING NOTES LIKE A BOSS…

1. Cornell Note Taking ~

is a note-taking system devised in 1940 s the  by Walter Pauk, an education professor at Cornell University. This method helps organize class notes into easily digestible summaries.

2. Two Column Method ~ requires active reading that is processing must occur for the notes to be taken.

3. Outlining Method ~  uses headings and bullet points to organize topics. This method is most useful when learning about topics that include a lot of detail.

A visual illustration of how to use the outline method:

4. Mapping Method ~ more visual way to organize your class notes. This technique is useful when learning about relationships between topics.

Mapping Method

5. Sentence Method ~ is simply writing down each topic as a jot note sentence. This method works well for fast paced lessons where a lot of information is being covered.

6. Charting Method ~ Charting note taking method uses columns to organize information. This method is useful for lessons that cover a lot of facts or relationships between topics.

HOW DO WE REVIEW AFTER A CLASS ?

  • Review notes along with the book.
  • Create our own examples.
  • Discuss & compare notes with others.
  • Re-write notes ~ for improvement.
  • Practice those skills you wish to develop.
  • Ask for clarification ~lecturer some questions.

REMEMBER SQ4R: –

OVERALL, THIS TITLE IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO WRITE NOTES AT THEIR CONVENIENCE BUT THEIR CONTENT DOES NOT ALTER ANY MEANING FROM WHAT HAS BEEN TAUGHT IN LECTURES. IN ADDITION, STUDENTS NEED TO KNOW HOW TO OVERCOME THE LACK OF FOCUS IN THE LECTURE. I HOPE ALL OF THE INFORMATION ABOVE YOU CAN PRACTICE IN THE LIFE AS A UNIVERSITY STUDENT. HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN IN THE NEXT TOPIC. GOODBYE!

TOPIC 5: Memory🧠, Learning✍️👀+ Improving Concentration📈.

So , this is the learning pyramids. Based on this pyramids, you will get only 5% of understanding from the lectures, 10% by reading, 20% by the audiovisual and 30% from the demonstration. So, if you want to gain more understanding about what have you learn, you need to do a discussion group to discuss the topic you have learn with your friends. By the discussion group, you will get 50 % of understanding. Next, you also can do the simulation which means practice by doing about the topics you have learn. You will get 75 % of understanding by this way and the best way to understand a topics by teaching others.

TOPIC 4: Time Throughout💼🕒 + Organization skills📄📅.

I have learned this topic by Madam Nur Izzati binti Mohd Sapperi.

WHAT IS TIME?

Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.

background-time-management-with-blue-red-details_1302-828

DEFINITION OF TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management is the process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity. It is a juggling act of various demands of study, social life, employment, family, and personal interests and commitments with the finiteness of time.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS…

1) Eliminate distractions

2) Be focused at the task at hand

3) Use a calendar

4) Use a checklist

5) Get organised

6) Schedule rewards

7) Get a good night’s sleep

Besides, as a student, we can use weekly schedule or daily planner in order to manage our time wisely and be more organised in study.

Here are the example of weekly schedule and daily planner:

ADVANTAGE OF BEING ORGANISED

1) Focus

giphy (1)

Being organized will enable you to focus more on what you want to achieve, both at work and in your home life. This will allow you to make better decisions as you visualize where you are and want to go.

2) Increased productivity

593598bbb79e20_Increase Employee Productivity

You will be able to be more productive in your study. By reducing the time and mental resources you expend/waste, you will have exponentially more time for the important stuff. Organized people are often twice as productive as unorganized people.

3) Better time management

FeatureImage-best-time-to-post-on-instagram

By organizing or prioritizing what you do you can better ensure that the tasks that are crucial get more priority. It’s really simple; if you are more productive you get more done and therefore have more time.

4) You feel less stressed

anigif_enhanced-buzz-23511-1427481528-11

Generally, when your assignments and key dates are outlined for each class, you’re better able to prepare and allocate your time accordingly, leaving you less stressed. When you’re less stressed, you are able to focus your energy and attention on more important things…like studying!

5) Setting and achieving goals

57ed76aed3e27c46ff60e054c4fca305--skinny-quotes-fit-quotes

Being organized and efficient will allow you to do more of what you want and what is important. Goal achievement, in your job and in your personal life is extremely gratifying and gives a sense of accomplishment that cannot be valued.

6) More energy and enthusiasm

giphy (2)

It is draining to continually wade through the same disorganized information on your desk, on your computer or in your head. Organization creates clarity which can provide us with enthusiasm and energy.

7) You can prepare for busy weeks in advance

tenor (1)

As a college student, there are inevitably weeks when multiple tests occur or various projects are due, especially around midterms and finals. When this occurs, it’s even more important to have a plan, so you can prioritize your study time and start studying enough in advance to be prepared for all your classes without the need for ineffective late night cramming.

FIXED-COMMITMENT CALENDAR

Here is my fixed-commitment calendar :

This calendar really helps me to manage my time wisely and keep me on track to all my daily activities as a college student, so i will be more efficient and discipline in everything i do.

JOB TASK ANALYSIS

This analysis of what we have to do help us to identify which of the activities that we have to put priorities on top first. Also is a way that you can manage your time effectively. It can help us to keep up the thing and meet deadline, reduce stress and complete work without any pressure. As a student it is important to do a job task analysis. Analysis task have two things which is the importance scale and frequency scale

Here is the example on how I categorized and analyse my job task :

PRIORITIZED TO-DO-LIST

Here is an example. I hope it will give you ideas about how to write it later.

this is a semester calendar from UITM

This topic guide us to make a To-Do-List and divide all of our plans into four category. The list will help changed our mindset to make sure we complete the high priority first because it is the tasks that are the most important compared to others. And the low priority tasks mean that the task should also be completed but it have the least prioritized compared to the high and medium.

That’s all for today. Bye!

🔎 WHAT IS THE TYPES OF GOAL?

Long Term Goals

A goal that takes a long period of time to achieve. For example, Great success in career.

“It’s important to set your own goals and work hard to achieve them.” — Yuichiro Miura

Goals give you direction. It allows you to stay mentally and physically focused on the road to where you want to go to.

💡THE FIVE STAGE APPROACH.🎯

1. Set goals that motivate you 🎯

Your goals need to mean something to you. Not your husband or kids, you. They need to be something that you’re actually motivated to accomplish.  Don’t go overboard.  5-7 goals is plenty to focus on and a manageable number to track.

2. Set Smart goals💡

A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. SMART  is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.

SMART goals are :

Specific…

Well defined, clear, and unambiguous.

 – Who, What, and Where.

Measurable…

With specific criteria that measure your progress towards the                        accomplishment of the goal.

– How many/much?

Attainable…

Attainable and not impossible to achieve.

– Have others done it successfully before?

Relevant…

Within reach, realistic, and relevant to your life purpose.

–  Is the goal realistic and within reach?

Time-bound…

With a clearly defined timeline, including a starting date and a  target date.

–  By when do you want to achieve your goal?

3. Put Goals in Writing📝

Research proves that people who write down their goals accomplish significantly more than those who don’t. So grab a cute journal or use the chalkboard method to visualize your goals like I do.

Just make sure you write them down!

4. Make an action plan🎬

A plan can help you focus on the steps it’ll take to reach your goal.

This will help you feel more in control and less all over the place.

5. Stick to it!📌

This can be the hard part.  Life can often get in the way and your goals fall to the wayside.  Don’t let that happen!

Check in with yourself either weekly or monthly.  Are you staying on track? Is there something you could be doing differently so that you’re more successful?

Put the check in on your task list so your more likely to actually do it!

PSST…

My goal is, I want to dean every semester, graduated on time (GOT) and get grace Anugerah Naib Chanselor (ANC).
